New Job, Old Job

I've survived my first week in my new job... technical writer for the South Pole Station Modernization project. The USAP is building a new South Pole Station, since the old geodesic dome is being slowly squashed by the snow and ice, and I've joined the team who is putting together the IT portion of the new elevated station. This is much more in line with my training and skill set, but some people think I'm nuts to leave a full-time job (as IT Admin) to take a contract position that is sure to end. I'll have at least a year in this position, though, and with the IT learning curve, that's enough for a ton of experience. There's a great group of guys on this project, and I've moved to the annex where they're actually building the network for South Pole, making sure it works, and then shipping it down for deployment.

In the meantime, I'm taking my friend Oliver's reminder to heart and getting my manuscript Little Oblivion ready for the ms submission season. It's been a great summer for writing and publication, and I hope to continue it. Getting organized to submit my work is an old job, and sometimes followed by a sigh, but I'm looking forward to it this year (if I can manage the new crazy schedule with work).
