Daylight Savings

This is the one Sunday I'm supposed to love--an extra hour of sleep! My internal clock knows better. So when it was 5 a.m., my body told me I was just fooling myself, and that it was really 6 a.m., and time to get up. I lay in bed for a half an hour wondering what I'd do with my extra time: design the doghouse we'll build for the dogs, start revising poems from the old thesis manuscript (which I've been avoiding since the last post about it), read the paper for any special deals/sales, bake doggie biscuits... the list actually went on quite a bit. Extra sleep was not on the list. It never is.

Have we really saved anything with this extra hour? Sure, there's an extra hour of sunlight on the end of the day for the summer, but then it's that much harder to change back to darkness. In the end, every autumn we always lose.

What did you all do with your extra hour? I did begin drafting the doghouse (I'm hoping to put in a skylight for added warmth), made my tea, polyurethaned two of the bar shelves, worked and fed the dogs (they do "shake" really well now), and thought about the quietness of the hour before dawn, and how slowly the light creeps up on us.
