Mary Poppins Was Right

A spoonful of sugar... or rather, a bowl full of ice cream helps the Augmentin go down. Claire has been fighting tooth and nail this latest antibiotic for her ear infection, but I resorted to mixing it with ice cream tonight, and that seemed to do the trick. So it's ice cream for the next 7 nights!

It would be quite nice if the world worked according to the rules of Mary Poppins, to be honest. I mean, she was firm, but fair, and while she let the kids go off to the fair alone while she and Bert shared a nice lunch with the penuins, she still made them clean their rooms and go to bed on time. There's something to be learned from this, I think, and it might even be bigger than jumping into a picture the "right" way. (apologies to those who are purists for the written story rather than the Disney version--we just watched it a few weeks ago so it's stuck in my head.)

It's been rough having Marc away, but only one more week before he's home. I have big plans for projects when he gets home. Huge.

Claire Motors

Claire crawls now... not great distances, but if she sees something across the room that she wants, she goes for it. That includes a bowl of dog food, a magazine, mommy's legs, a rock that Frazil was chewing on, a computer cord, etc. I love and hate this. She's too adorable for words now that she is discovering the world, but she is also discovering what she doesn't want in the world, and that makes me the bad guy--holding her down to give her antibiotics.

My friend Papatya had a great suggestion for the poems, so I'm going to take her advice. More soon.

What It Takes to Write Again

1. A sprained ankle
2. A hectic schedule
3. Watching the complete Lord of the Rings trilogy straight through
4. A sleeping baby
5. A house that needs cleaning

Need I say more?
