Things I miss from Academia

1. Running in class only 3 hours/day (i.e., not being in meetings for 7 hours of the workday)
2. Being the subject matter expert in the room
3. Doing most of my work in my pajamas
4. Being able to relate my personal life to my professional life through writing
5. That feeling when a student finally gets it
6. Being in a gender majority on staff (I’m the only woman on my current and future teams)
7. Talking about literature at any point in the day
8. Having my ideas taken seriously
9. Feeling 100% accomplished every three months
