Bed and Breakfast Date

Two weekends ago, I arranged a surprise date with Marc. I'm amazed I kept it secret so it was a true surprise. With the help of his parents as babysitters, I arranged a 6-course private meal and a night's stay at the wonderful Historic Castle Marne bed and breakfast in Denver. Sure, we didn't go too far away, but it was amazing how great it felt to be just the two of us for 24 hours.

The dinner was amazing--all homemade food, all superbly prepared and presented. We had so much conversation, you wouldn't have thought we lived in the same house and slept in the same bed every night. Our individually prepared menu featured pecan encrusted crab cakes, tomato curry soup, garden salad with homemade breadsticks and homemade creamy raspberry viniagrette, pomegranite sorbet (also homemade)... and separate entrees for Marc and I. He had the rocky mountain trout with shrimp florentine, and I had the rock cornish game hen with wild plum glaze. Then for dessert, cheesecake. Three hours later, we made our way up to our room, and soaked in the private hottub for two on our private balcony.

When I have a hard day of chaos at work, or fussy baby, I just have to have a Calgon moment and think of being away with Marc, and breathing slowly, and smiling like I can't ever stop. (pictures of the dinner coming to flickr soon)
