Things I've noticed....

Being pregnant certainly elicits many different--but common--behaviors from those around me. For example, I work on a team with all men, and the ones who have children already quietly ask me how I'm feeling on a daily basis. Those who don't have children make jokes ("Don't piss off the pregnant woman!"), but the jokes come off as nervous response to fear.

Some people look twice at me while I drink my morning tea (despite the decaf label sticking off the tea bag). I actually had someone ask me, "Should you really be drinking that?" when I had a Pepsi with lunch one day. On the other hand, when I eat at 7, 10, 11:30 a.m., 2, 4:30, and 6 p.m., no one really makes a big deal about it.

When people find out I'm pregnant, their eyes automatically drop to my belly, despite the fact that there's only a very small bit to show when I'm naked.

The family checks in on me twice as much when Marc's away.

No one offered to shovel the snow for me during the last snow storm.

Every prenatal website and OB office has different metaphors they use for the size of the fetus or uterus at any given week. I've been thinking about these metaphors a lot since I found out I was pregnant (grain of rice). More on this later--there's a connection to poetic language here, but I haven't worked it all out yet.

I haven't really reacted to any of these in a positive or negative way--just noticing the way some people change their behavoir around me.

Your posting looked so lonely I just had to write and tell you that Ron Sillyman has been writing about LANGUAGE poetry theft. A subject close to the hearts of all true poets working in the post modern world today. Clik my link for further details and good look with the new arrival

sincerely
