My Lucky Isolation

I will have to be better about blogging now that I'm confined to my house (mostly to my bed)... and of writing new poems. Ironically, I was going to write a blurb about AWP, and how it always affects me: the first half making me feel guilty for not having written in a long time, the second half gearing me up to write like crazy. And here I am, with more time than I know what to do with on my hands.

I am on bedrest (pretty strict for now) because when I went in for a routine 20-week ultrasound (pictures to come soon), they found out I have an incompetent cervix (again, that medical language!), and did an emergency Shirodkar cerclage. I'm lucky because most women find out about an incompetent cervix by miscarrying. Very lucky. But everyone is happy with the outcome. Baby needs to stay in there as long as possible, so I get to blog, write poetry, email, read, crochet (all while laying down or sitting at less than a 45-degree angle, which is all pretty challenging). Hopefully I won't be going nuts by the end of four weeks when they may let me do more.

So I'm looking on the bright side at all those books I bought at AWP!

Oh no! I'm glad the doctors could intervene in time. Everything else is ok, I hope? One of my other girlfriend's went on bed rest, and now little Jesse's right as rain and growing like a weed.
Much love to you and the little one.
